The 2013 softball season has begun.  We look forward to watching Monique progress through this season.  The Lady Tigers from Red Bay is a young team with a lot of talent and are off to a solid start.

Monique's batting has settled in well and her pitching is very consistent considering her recent surgery which prevented her from doing anything resembling exercise for more than five weeks.  She is gaining ground fast now that she can play at 100% and she intends to lead the team to many wins this year from the mound.

We look forward to a great season and will be cheering for "Neek" and the Lady Tigers.

2012 Softball Season Underway!

The 2012 fastpitch softball season is underway.  Monique had a great weekend at the Hamilton Alabama tournament.  You could see the rust melt away as the tournament progressed.

Thanks to Brad Ivy for working with Neek Sunday to correct some batting issues.  She is back on the ball now.

Great job by Coach Steve Cox and Coach Drew working with this young team.

Summer Softball over - 2011 Varsity Basketball Begins

Well, Monique had a good summer of training, got to play some travel softball and basketball and get in lots of pitching and batting practice with Steve and Brad.  School basketball is at full speed now and the team is doing very well.  They defeated Hatton last night in an exciting game.  Both teams played with poise, skill and determination.

Hanna Sharp was the clear standout of the night.  She was on fire and could do no wrong!  Way to go Hanna.

Monique, in her Sophmore year, isn't getting as much playing time as usual which is taking some getting used to but it is all good and she is getting to participate with some really talented girls.  She had 9 points in the game last Friday night and only 2, via freethrows last night.  But she played solid defense and had three good opportunities to score but the ball just wouldn't fall for her.

Below are some short videos from over the summer.  She really did a great job and we are very proud of her.

2011 Training Report

Monique spent the summer working during June, but July and August were months that she took for training.  Although both basketball and softball seasons have yet to begin, she worked throughout the months on pitching skills and batting accuracy with private trainers.

We are seeing a very improved speed and accuracy in Monique's pitching, and her bat speed has increased substantially.  We appreciate Brad Ivy and Steve Cox for the time they have spent helping Monique to improve in softball, and must thank Kenny Sparks and Ellis Wooten for allowing her to participate in projects that allowed her to build on her basketball skills.

Barring any injuries, we expect to see great things out of Monique during her freshman year.

Travel Basketball Season Ends

Monique had the great opportunity to play travel basketball this spring with Franklin County.  The team was very successful and was made up of players from all over the area.  They traveled to Florence, Tuscaloosa, Mars Hill, Booneville, and other places winning a large percentage of their games.  The point was to get time on the court against some of the best teams in Alabama, some being much older and more experienced than Franklin County; however, the team meshed well and fought hard, making their fans very proud.

Here are a few photos from the Northeast Mississippi Community College tournament in Booneville, Mississippi as the team closed out their season to begin tryouts and camps at their respective schools.

Monique Pitching at County Tournament 2011

Franklin County Times Article by Scot Beard

Below is an article published by Scot Beard at the Franklin County Times on the Regional Tournament last week.  To read the entire article go to:  http://www.franklincountytimes.com/2011/05/18/red-bay-falls-in-regional-tournament/

VESTAVIA HILLS — For the third season in a row the Red Bay varsity softball team came close to clinching a spot in the state tournament, but could not earn the needed victory to punch its ticket to Montgomery.

The Lady Tigers started the Class 2A North Central Tournament with a pair of wins to reach the finals of the Winners’ Bracket. They dropped that game against Sumiton Christian 8-2 and later lost to Ranburne 8-4 in an elimination game during the Losers’ Bracket finals with a chance to earn a trip to state.

In both losses, Red Bay fell behind early and could not rally. Against Sumiton Christian the Lady Tiger trailed 2-0 heading into the third inning, but allowed the top-ranked Lady Eagles to score three runs in that inning to pull away for good.
Red Bay cut into the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Whitney Sharp led off the inning with a solo home run. Hannah Sharp singled with two outs in the inning and scored on a double by Monique Dulaney.

Whitney Sharp, Lexy Lindsey and Mariah Horton all singled for the Lady Tigers.

Ranburne scored four runs in the first inning to take control early and added an insurance run in the second inning.
Red Bay looked ready to seize control of the game in the third inning when Kelly Ballard scored on a Whitney Sharp single and the Lady Tigers had runners at first and second with no outs.

Unfortunately, the next two batters could not get the ball out of the infield and two runners were retired heading to third base. Lindsey later scored on a single by Hannah Sharp, but a line out by Dulaney ended the threat, leaving Red Bay trailing 5-2.

Red Bay had another golden opportunity in the fourth when it loaded the bases with no outs, but the runner on third was retired when Lauren Pacetti reached on a fielder’s choice. Two batters later Ballard hit into a double play to end the inning with Red Bay scoring only one run.

Ranburne made a Red Bay rally seem impossible in the bottom of the inning when it scored three more runs to extend its advantage to 8-3.

Pacetti singled in the sixth inning for Red Bay and scored on a double by Whitney Sharp, but that was the most offense the Lady Tigers would come up with for the rest of the game.

Whitney Sharp led the Lady Tigers with a double and two singles while Hannah Sharp and Pacetti each hit a pair of singles. Dulaney, Horton and Ballard hit one single each.

Fastpitch Softball Done - On to Basketball

The 2011 softball season is over.  Over the weekend Monique traveled to Birmingham as a 9th grader with the Red Bay Lady Tigers fastpitch softball team to compete in the Regional Championships.  On Friday they played two games and won both decisively, 11-1 and 8-1.  Neek played right field and had a number of good catches and batted 1 for 4 at bats, no strikouts but had a couple of line drives that got her thrown out at first.  She had an RBI, scoring Emily Cox off of a double.

Saturday the Lady Tigers lost two close games which ended their season.  This bunch of girls have some tremendous talent and many of them are headed to play college ball.  Emily Cox and Whitney Sharp have already committed to schools in Alabama.  We wish them the absolute best and know they are going to be a great asset to their respective teams.

The highlight of the JV and Varsity seasons for us was Monique's pitching 342 pitches during the County JV Tournament.  Of those, 234 were strikes (69%) and 108 were balls (31%).   We are proud that she hung in there so long.  Then during the varsity area tournament she hit at least two triples and had great at-bats throughout the tournament, one at bat producing a drive that hit the center field fence.  Another couple of feet and it would have been outta there.  Great job Neek!

Interview with Coach Cox - WRMG with Jack Ivy

This interview was done before the area tournament.  Coach Cox introduces the 2011 lady tigers with Jack Ivy.  Jack and Coach Cox also discuss briefly how the tornadoes affected the team and the area.  We continue to pray for Phil Campbell, Hackleburg, Smithville and all the other areas hit by the storms.  We love all of you and will continue to help you rebuild.  God bless you all.

Two run triple! Lady Tigers Win Area Tournament - on to Birmingham!

Monique & Mom after Area Champioships

Last night the Red Bay Lady Tigers Varsity Fastpitch Softball team won the Area Tournament.

This is a very impressive group of young ladies.  Every one had great plays and contributed in a major way to this win.  BIG props to Coaches Steve Cox and Doug Sharp who have worked so hard with these girls.  Coach Donnie Roberts does a fantastic job with them as well and treated the girls to a steak cookout afterwards.

And let's not forget the wives that keep the coaches out of trouble and do so much to make this club a successful one.  Yolanda and Deanette are a couple of the hardest working women in softball if you ask us.

We were completely surprised that Monique was selected as an "All Area" winner.  We are extremely proud of her as it is her second award in this sport this year; however, it can be honestly said that every girl on this team deserves that award as well.  Oh yeah, the two run triple Monique hit to put Red Bay on the board early was an exciting moment for us in a big way.  Great job Neek!

Congratulation to the Lady Tigers who are on their way to Birmingham to compete in Regionals!

Area Games Today at Red Bay Softball Fields

Earlier this month and after the JV season was over, Monique was pulled up to the Red Bay Lady Tigers Varsity softball team to play out the rest of the year.  She had to make a tough decision because she had also committed to a travel basketball team and their season had begun.  Neek had played a number of games with them but the school's varsity team needed her complete attention according to the coaches.  So she hit the field to hopefully help the softball team get to state.

This team is filled with talented young ladies.  Whitney Sharp and Emily Cox lead the team as super talented pitchers who have already been selected by Alabama colleges after they graduate.  Monique is excited to play with this great bunch of girls and coaches.  Since she can play any position on the field with relative ease, she gets to participate in a meaningful way in whatever way the team needs, even if it means she is fetching water or cheering for them, which rarely happens.

We hope that the Lady Tigers can run through their games today and head to regionals this weekend with a lot of momentum.  The tornados that struck the South last week destroyed two of our area schools so they are having to play a lot to get all the games in.  Our thoughts and prayers are continuous for Phil Campbell, Hackelburg and Smithville as well as the other areas hit.  This was a bad event for the Southeastern USA but we will recover.  Please remember to pray for those affected by the flood waters that continue to rise.
